Among migraineurs, understanding and assessing the severity and disability of a patient’s illness is an important step in ascertaining their treatment needs. Those patients with a higher level of disease-related disability require a more aggressive management plan, while patients with a lower level of disease-related disability generally require a less aggressive management plan.

Systematic approaches to the acute management of migraine include traditional step-care and stratified-care approaches. Three different treatment strategies have been developed to date:

  • Step Care Across Attacks
  • Step Care Within Attacks
